Record $863 Billion in Exports Achieved in FY26 Amid US Tariffs and Middle East Crisis, Reports Official

India’s exports reached a record $863 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26, despite challenges posed by US tariffs and the ongoing conflict in West Asia. This achievement reflects the resilience of India’s export sector, according to Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce. He made these remarks during an outreach program focused on the accomplishments of Gujarat’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Bhadoo noted that India’s exports have nearly doubled over the past decade, rising from approximately $441 billion. Key contributors to this growth include engineering goods, petroleum products, electronics, pharmaceuticals, gems and jewellery, and chemicals. Gujarat has emerged as a significant export hub, contributing nearly $110 billion to the nation’s total exports.

Focus on Special Economic Zones

The government is committed to expanding manufacturing and exports through the promotion of new SEZs across India. Bhadoo highlighted the recent notification of an SEZ by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited in Dholera. He emphasized that these zones are crucial for driving investment, employment, innovation, and exports.

Dnyaneshwar B Patil, Zonal Development Commissioner of Kandla Special Economic Zone, stated that SEZs play a vital role in achieving the goals of Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat 2047. Exports from Gujarat’s SEZs increased from Rs 21,79,808 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 23,00,793 crore in 2025-26, accounting for about 21% of India’s total SEZ exports.

Patil also reported that investments in Gujarat’s SEZs rose from Rs 21,22,654 crore to Rs 22,28,624 crore, while employment surged from 63,475 to over 2.22 lakh jobs during the same period. Additionally, four semiconductor SEZs have been established in Gujarat, promoted by CG Semi Technologies, Kaynes Semicon, Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Micron Technology. Patil outlined a roadmap targeting 20% annual growth in exports and 10% growth in employment generation for Gujarat’s SEZs.
