PM to talk to Indian contingent for Commonwealth Games 2022
The Prime Minister will talk to the Indian contingent for Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 via video conferencing on 20 July 2022 at 10 AM. Coaches and athletes will attend the interaction.
The Prime Minister’s interaction is part of his ongoing effort to motivate athletes ahead of major sporting events. Last year, the Prime Minister interacted with the Indian athletes’ delegation bound for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Indian para-athletes’ delegation bound for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Prime Minister took a keen interest in athletes even during sporting events. He called athletes to congratulate them on their success and motivate them to do better on many occasions. Additionally, the Prime Minister met and interacted with the contingent upon their return.
Birmingham will host the CWG 2022 from 28th July to 8th August. 215 Indian athletes will compete in 141 events across 19 sports at the CWG 2022.
India made its debut at the Commonwealth Games back in 1934. So far, India has clinched 503 medals. Last time India secured 26 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 20 bronze medals at Gold Coast in Australia.
