Indian MPs Engage Globally at 153rd IPU Assembly

Indian parliamentarians recently made significant contributions at the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, addressing crucial health, human rights, and international security issues. Notable figures included Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Shri Harivansh, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Dr. Sasmit Patra, and Shri N.K. Premachandran, who engaged in various discussions and workshops aimed at promoting global parliamentary diplomacy.

Health Committee Engagements

Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Lok Sabha, actively participated in sessions of the IPU Committee on Health. His contributions were complemented by a field visit, allowing him to observe important health initiatives firsthand.

Addressing International Concerns

During the assembly, Shri Harivansh, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, stood firm against Pakistan’s unwarranted remarks regarding Kashmir. He asserted on the assembly floor that Kashmir is an integral part of India, emphasizing that Pakistan has no authority to comment on India’s internal matters.

Advocating for Rights and Empowerment

Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, another Lok Sabha MP, participated in the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights. Dr. Sasmit Patra contributed to a panel discussion exploring the ‘Role of parliaments in securing peace in the age of military artificial intelligence.’ His involvement in the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights further allowed him to assist in the drafting of resolutions pertinent to contemporary challenges.

Building a Stronger Parliamentary Framework Against Terrorism

Shri N.K. Premachandran participated in workshops aimed at strengthening parliamentary responses to terrorism. He also contributed to discussions on the critical minerals needed for shared prosperity, emphasizing the importance of effective parliamentary oversight in these matters.
