Piyush Goyal Engages U.S. Business Leaders to Boost India Investments

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, has been actively promoting India as a top investment destination during his recent meetings with senior leaders of major U.S. companies in New York. The discussions aimed to strengthen India–U.S. trade relations and explore new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.

Goyal’s meetings included key figures such as Mr. Jonathan Gray, President and COO of Blackstone, and Mr. Prakash Melwani, Chairman of Blackstone’s International Private Equity business. They discussed expanding Blackstone’s investments in India, especially in critical sectors that could benefit from enhanced partnerships.

Engagement with Financial Services Leaders

Another significant meeting was held with Mr. George Walker, Chairman and CEO of Neuberger Berman, alongside other leadership team members. Here, the focus was on deepening investment ties and enhancing engagement in the financial and wealth management services domain.

Opportunities in Beauty and Technology

Shri Goyal also met Mr. Stéphane de La Faverie, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies. Their conversation revolved around growth opportunities in India, particularly through increased local manufacturing and sourcing, leveraging the booming beauty and personal care market.

In yet another insightful meeting, Goyal met Mr. Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM. This discussion centered on furthering IBM’s engagement in India, with a keen interest in expanding collaboration in advanced fields like AI, cloud infrastructure, and quantum computing.

Insurance and Financial Services Expansion

Engagement with Mr. Michel A. Khalaf, President and CEO of MetLife, highlighted opportunities for growth within India’s expansive insurance and financial services sector. The discussions pointed to a bright future of innovation and investment in these industries.

Strengthening Business Ties

During his meeting with Mr. William E. Ford, Chairman and CEO of General Atlantic, Shri Goyal discussed ways to deepen the company’s investment and business activities in India. Additionally, meetings with Mr. Mark Tucker, Non-Executive Chairman of AIA Group, covered AIA’s involvement in the Indian market, particularly in the context of the government’s vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.
