Guide to Purchasing FASTag Annual Pass: Validity, Cost, and Trip Details

In a significant development for frequent travelers, India’s Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has unveiled a new FASTag-based annual pass aimed at easing toll payments on national highways. Set to launch on August 15, 2025, the pass will cost โ‚น3,000 and promises to facilitate seamless travel across the country’s extensive highway network. The initiative is designed to enhance convenience for commuters while reducing the financial burden of toll fees.

Details of the FASTag Annual Pass

The FASTag annual pass will allow private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans, to enjoy free passage at designated National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas for a year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. This initiative aims to streamline the toll payment process, making it more efficient for regular users of national highways. The pass will be available exclusively through the Rajmargyatra mobile application and the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

To activate the annual pass, users must verify their vehicle’s eligibility and ensure their existing FASTag is properly linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number. Once verified, users can make the payment of โ‚น3,000 through the designated platforms. The activation process is straightforward, ensuring that users can quickly benefit from the new system.

Eligibility and Activation Process

The annual pass is specifically designed for private non-commercial vehicles. It is important to note that the pass cannot be transferred to another vehicle and is only valid for the vehicle on which the FASTag is affixed. Users must ensure that their FASTag is correctly installed on the windshield of their vehicle for the pass to be activated. If a vehicle’s FASTag is registered using only a chassis number, users will need to update it to a Vehicle Registration Number to qualify for the annual pass.

Once activated, the annual pass will remain valid for one year or until the user completes 200 trips. After reaching either limit, the pass will revert to a standard FASTag, and users will need to re-activate the annual pass to continue enjoying its benefits. This feature is designed to provide flexibility for frequent travelers who may exceed the trip limit within the validity period.

Frequently Asked Questions

The government has released a list of frequently asked questions to clarify the details surrounding the FASTag annual pass. For instance, users can expect to receive SMS notifications related to their pass, as activating it allows Rajmargyatra to access their registered mobile number for communication purposes. Additionally, while the annual pass is not mandatory, existing FASTag users can continue to use their FASTag for regular transactions at toll plazas without opting for the annual pass.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for those who frequently use national highways, providing a more economical and efficient way to manage toll payments. As the launch date approaches, further details regarding the activation process and eligible toll plazas will be made available to the public.
