Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran Praises India’s Resilient Economy Amid Global Challenges
Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran stated on Monday that India’s economy remains robust despite a challenging geopolitical landscape. Speaking at the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium 2026, he highlighted that the country has consistently surpassed expectations, achieving significant growth in uncertain times. He emphasized three critical areas for sustaining long-term growth: energy security, advanced manufacturing jobs, and investment in human capital.
Strong domestic demand driving growth
Chandrasekaran noted that India’s economic expansion is fueled by strong domestic demand, services exports, and supportive government policies. He pointed out that demand remains high in sectors such as auto sales, credit, power, and cement. Key indicators, including a current account deficit consistently below one percent of GDP, services exports at approximately 11 percent of GDP, robust foreign exchange reserves, and healthy bank non-performing assets (NPAs), further demonstrate the economy’s strength.
Viksit Bharat needs strong foundations
Discussing the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, Chandrasekaran remarked that it has influenced various aspects of the nation. He asserted that achieving this vision requires inclusive and sustainable development, supported by world-class infrastructure, institutions, and intellectual property. He stressed that all three elements are essential for realizing this ambitious goal.
Quality as a driver of competitiveness
Chandrasekaran cited Toyota as an example of a company that prioritizes quality not just as an outcome but as a driver of innovation and productivity. He noted that quality has become a key factor in Toyota’s competitiveness. He also referenced Germany’s focus on quality as a means to enhance national competitive advantage, urging Indian manufacturers to adopt similar transformative practices. He called for the integration of sustainable manufacturing processes alongside quality, stating that this approach would foster strong leadership across both large companies and the broader ecosystem.
