October Bank Holidays: State-by-State Guide to Bank Closures

Bank branches across India will observe multiple holidays in October, impacting customer access. Customers planning to visit their local branches should be aware of varying regional holidays and the scheduled closures. In addition to these holidays, banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, as mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Regional Bank Holidays in October

On October 2, all banks will close nationwide for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Specific regional holidays include October 10, when banks in Karnataka and West Bengal will be closed for Mahalaya Amavasya. On October 17, banks in Tripura will observe a holiday for Maha Saptami.

A significant closure occurs on October 19, affecting banks in Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya due to Dussehra celebrations. The following day, October 20, will see closures in multiple states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka for Dasara/Dussehra. Additional closures are scheduled for October 21 in Tripura, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Thiruvananthapuram for Vijaya Dashami.

Continued Access to Digital Banking

Despite the branch closures, customers will still have access to digital banking services throughout the month. ATMs, UPI, internet banking, and mobile banking apps will remain operational for routine transactions. Customers can utilize these services for fund transfers, bill payments, and account management. However, services requiring a physical branch visit, such as cheque processing and large cash transactions, will not be available on holidays. Customers are advised to plan their branch visits accordingly.
