New Four-Lane Bridge Boosts Andhra Pradesh’s Urban Mobility
In a significant step towards improving urban mobility and rail safety in Andhra Pradesh, the foundation stone for a new four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) was laid today. The ceremonial event took place between Guntur and Nambur railway stations, officiated by Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, alongside Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.
This project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹108 Crore, will be fully funded by the Ministry of Railways. The ROB will span 668 meters, replacing the Level Crossing (LC) Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section of the Guntur-Nambur line. Strategically located near the Inner Ring Road of Guntur City, the new bridge will provide a direct connection between Bus Stand Road and Gorantla Village, facilitating a more seamless transit experience for commuters. Construction is set to commence shortly on a stretch of land covering 2.9 acres.
During the event, Shri V. Somanna emphasized the priorities of Indian Railways, highlighting passenger safety and operational efficiency. He remarked on the importance of replacing level crossing gates with modern ROBs and RUBs, stressing that this initiative is essential for achieving zero accidents and enhancing punctuality. The minister added that the central government is investing in the modernization of rail infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh, which will significantly reduce travel time, fuel wastage, and traffic interruptions, all while promoting socio-economic growth in the region. Alongside this bridge, an investment of ₹3500 crores is being allocated to upgrade 74 railway stations in the state with world-class amenities.
Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar also spoke at the event, reinforcing the commitment of the central government to expedite the growth of Andhra Pradesh’s transport infrastructure. He noted the collaborative efforts between central and state departments, which are ensuring that critical road and rail projects in the Guntur region are advancing swiftly to enhance connectivity and alleviate long-standing congestion for local residents.
General Manager of South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur, welcomed the attendees, shedding light on ongoing capital and safety upgrades being implemented by Indian Railways in the region. The event was coordinated by Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur, Smt. Sudheshna Sen.
Among the distinguished attendees were various public representatives, including Member of Parliament Shri Bashyam Ramakrishna and several Member of Legislative Assemblies. Their presence highlighted the significance of this infrastructure project for the local community.
