IMC 2026 Highlights Focus on Expanding Digital Connectivity

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), part of the Ministry of Communications, recently hosted the Ministerial Programme at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026. This year’s theme, “Scale Without Boundaries: Investing in the Next Billion Digital Connections,” brought together a diverse group of leaders, including ministers, international organizations, and key figures from the telecommunications industry. The event aimed to foster dialogue on enhancing digital connectivity and attracting investments for next-generation infrastructure.

Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, delivered an impactful address, underscoring the significance of sustained investment and international collaboration in achieving affordable digital access. He stated, “Scale Without Boundaries is not merely about expanding telecommunications networks; it is about expanding human opportunity.” He highlighted that reaching the next billion connected individuals is crucial, as they will likely become transformative contributors to the global digital economy.

Bridging Digital Divides

Shri Scindia stressed that India’s experience demonstrates that connectivity can be enhanced through affordability, innovation, and a focus on public good. As the world anticipates the rollout of advanced technologies such as 5G-Advanced, 6G, and satellite networks, he called for unity in ensuring that barriers based on geography, income, or circumstances do not hinder opportunities. “Our goal must be connectivity without boundaries and, ultimately, opportunity without boundaries,” he asserted.

The Ministerial Programme served as a vital platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies on policy, regulation, and investment. Emphasis was placed on enhancing digital connectivity that is affordable, reliable, resilient, and inclusive. Notable figures such as H.E. Ms. Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Estonia’s Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Hideo Fuseda, Japan’s Vice-Minister for International Affairs, contributed their insights.

Collaborative Efforts for Global Growth

Participants engaged in meaningful discussions about the necessity of stronger cooperation among governments, industries, and international entities. They collectively addressed how to mobilize investments, develop enabling policy frameworks, and ensure meaningful connectivity amid a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The importance of building future-ready networks and establishing international standards was emphasized as critical in advancing digital connectivity by 2030. The conversations reinforced the value of fostering global partnerships to extend the advantages of cutting-edge digital technologies to broader populations.
