Government Enhances Hindi Usage in Rural Development Initiatives

In a significant move to promote the use of Hindi in government operations, the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Rural Development convened today at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting, chaired by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, brought together key members of Parliament, committee members, and senior officials of the Ministry.

Committee Meeting Highlights

Among the attendees were Shri Kalyan Banerjee, Shri Dharambir Singh, and Smt. Anita Nagarsingh Chouhan, who contributed to discussions alongside other prominent figures. Senior officials, including Shri Narendra Bhushan, Secretary of the Department of Land Resources, and Shri Rohit Kansal, Secretary, Rural Development, presented the Committee with updates regarding their efforts to implement Hindi as the official language. They reported substantial progress in enabling Hindi usage in governmental correspondence.

Contributions from Eminent Scholars

The meeting also welcomed several esteemed Hindi scholars as special invitees. These included Shri Girish Pankaj, Shri Indra Kumar Jain, Shri Devi Prasad Mishra, Advocate Dr. B. Madhu, Dr. Narendra Kumar Sant, Smt. Kathy Rohulupuii, and Shri Rajneesh Mohanot. Their insights and recommendations were invaluable in shaping future initiatives aimed at enhancing the Ministry’s Hindi communication.

Encouraging Hindi as an Empowering Language

During the discussions, the Hon’ble Minister expressed concerns over the continued reliance on English in government functions, which he sees as a remnant of colonial rule. He reinforced the need to embrace Hindi and other Indian languages, particularly since the Ministry serves rural populations who may find Hindi more accessible. “Hindi is the soul of India and the voice of the common people,” he stated.

Actionable Steps Forward

Shri Chouhan called for a commitment to regular meetings of the Hindi Advisory Committee and proposed collaboration with local writers to further integrate Hindi into the Ministry’s activities. He also emphasized that communication with state governments should shift towards their respective regional languages whenever feasible, fostering a closer connection between the government and the citizens.

The committee concluded with a renewed dedication to enhancing the use of Hindi in official capacities, aligning rural development programming with the linguistic needs of the community. Through these efforts, the Ministry aims to bridge the language gap and ensure that benefits reach the citizens effectively.
