Trump Showcases White House Construction Projects Featuring Granite, Grass, and a Helipad

US President Donald Trump showcased ongoing construction projects at the White House during an impromptu tour on Wednesday. He highlighted the newly rebuilt driveway, revamped helipad, and other renovations around the complex. Trump emphasized his personal involvement in the projects, detailing various aspects from materials used to landscaping changes.

Driveway and Helipad Renovation

Trump began the tour by announcing the replacement of the White House driveway, which he described as previously being “very basic” asphalt. He noted that the new driveway is made of white granite sourced from California, calling it a “very special stone.” The president also addressed the helipad, explaining that construction had been halted due to concerns over its slope. He stated that the helipad is now “dead flat,” acknowledging that the adjustments had delayed the project by an additional week and a half.

Facade and Landscaping Updates

As the tour progressed, Trump pointed out improvements to the White House facade, including repainting and stonework. He expressed pride in the quality of the stone used, stating, “look how perfect the stone is.” Trump also showcased newly laid topsoil and grass near the helipad, remarking that the grass would be “very happy.” He walked with construction workers onto the newly carved granite helipad, which features the presidential seal, and signed a carved eagle that will be placed inside the seal.

Ballroom Project and National Security

While the 90,000-square-foot ballroom was not part of the tour, Trump frequently referenced it. His administration has taken the ballroom project to the Supreme Court, claiming it and the planned bunker facility are matters of national security. Trump expressed confidence that the court would not halt construction, stating, “I can’t imagine it happening.” A recent court filing indicated that construction is progressing with a crew of 250 working extensive hours, reporting that the complex is “65% complete in its entirety.”

Trump’s Legacy in Construction

During the tour, Trump reiterated his passion for construction and the importance of maintaining the White House complex. He stated, “One thing I know how to do is build. … I love construction, I love seeing things properly taken care of.” He noted that the projects would endure long after his administration. Trump also described how he envisions the new facilities being utilized during visits by dignitaries, allowing them to arrive on the new roadway and enjoy outdoor cocktails before entering the ballroom.
