Bank Closures This Week: Locations and Dates for September 28 to October 4

Bank customers should prepare for significant disruptions this week as several banks across India will close their branches between September 28 and October 4. A three-day nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30 will coincide with a national holiday on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. Customers are advised to check with their local branches or refer to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) state-wise banking holiday calendar for specific closure details.
Bank Closures This Week
The UFBU has announced a nationwide strike that will affect bank operations from September 28 to September 30. During this period, customers may face disruptions in over-the-counter banking services across the country. Following the strike, banks will also be closed on October 2 in observance of Gandhi Jayanti, a holiday recognized in all states and union territories.
Banking Services During Closures
Despite the branch closures, essential banking services will remain available. Digital platforms such as net banking, UPI, mobile banking apps, and ATMs will continue to operate, allowing customers to conduct routine transactions. However, services that require a physical visit to a branch, including cheque clearances, cash deposits, and KYC formalities, will be unavailable until branches reopen.
Customers are encouraged to utilize digital banking options for most transactions during this period. The RBI provides a detailed state-wise holiday list annually, and account holders should regularly consult this calendar, as bank holidays may differ from general state government holidays.
