Main Vaapas Aaunga Adds 2 AM Shows on Second Saturday

Main Vaapas Aaunga has shown a remarkable turnaround at the box office after a slow start. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film earned Rs. 2 crores on its second Friday, surpassing its opening day collection of Rs. 1.28 crore. The film’s performance has continued to improve, leading to increased demand for screenings, particularly on its second Saturday.

Increased Screenings Due to Demand

The positive trend in ticket sales has prompted cinemas to add early morning shows. PVR C&B Square in Mumbai will screen the film at 2:00 am on Sunday, June 21, while PVR Nexus in Bengaluru has scheduled a 6:50 am show, which is already filling up quickly. Trade sources indicate that many cinemas are responding to the growing audience interest by scheduling additional early morning and post-midnight screenings.

Gautam Dutta, CEO of Revenue & Operations at PVR INOX Limited, commented on the film’s trajectory, stating, “What we’re tracking closely with Main Vaapas Aaunga is the shape of its trajectory, not just the topline box office number. The film has grown steadily through the week, which is exactly the kind of trend exhibitors like to see, as it reflects genuine and sustained audience interest rather than a front-loaded opening.” He noted that the film’s momentum is driven by strong word-of-mouth surrounding Imtiaz Ali’s storytelling, Naseeruddin Shah’s performance, and A R Rahman’s score. Dutta expressed optimism about the film’s performance in the coming weeks.

Positive Feedback from Exhibitors

Ritesh Arora, Programming Head at MovieMax, shared insights on the film’s recovery, saying, “While the film had a slow start last week, it witnessed an impressive turnaround during the weekdays with steadily improving collections. The momentum has continued into the weekend, with shows going houseful and additional screenings being added to cater to the increasing audience demand.”

Devang Sampat, Managing Director of Cinepolis, also noted the film’s rising popularity. He revealed that Cinepolis India has increased showings by 30% from Friday to Saturday due to soaring demand and improving occupancy rates across its 497 screens nationwide.

In West Bengal, distributor Satadeep Saha reported a significant increase in showings, stating, “On Friday, it had 24 shows. Now, it’s playing in more than 50 shows and for Sunday it will be more than 75 shows. It clearly shows the demand the film has generated.”

The film’s growing popularity has not only delighted exhibitors but also indicates a strong connection with audiences, making it a noteworthy entry in the current cinematic landscape.
