Kartik Aaryan and Sandeep Modi’s Film Set to Roll at Dharma Productions in Early 2027
Following the shelving of their previous period action drama, Dharma Productions is reuniting with Kartik Aaryan and director Sandeep Modi for an exciting new project. Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that the trio is set to collaborate on a high-concept action thriller, which is expected to begin filming early next year. This marks another significant step for both the production house and the talented actor.
A Unique Blend of Genres
Details about the upcoming film are being kept under wraps, but sources describe it as a distinctive thriller that will blend action, romance, and suspense. Kartik Aaryan is set to take on a role that is markedly different from his previous performances. A source close to the development shared, “Karan Johar, Sandeep Modi and Kartik Aaryan have been discussing various projects after their patriotic action film couldn’t materialize. They recently zeroed in on this story that will present Kartik in the most commercial yet distinctly different action avatar.” Sandeep Modi is currently finalizing the script and plans to begin pre-production by the end of this year.
This project will be Kartik’s third collaboration with Dharma Productions, following last year’s romantic comedy “Tu Meri Main Tera” and the upcoming fantasy comedy “Naagzilla,” which is set to hit theaters during the Valentine’s Day weekend next year. For Sandeep Modi, this film will mark his first theatrical Hindi directorial venture after his debut with the 2019 Marathi slice-of-life film “Chumbak,” which starred Swanand Kirkire.
Previous Project Shelved
Modi was initially set to direct Kartik in a period action drama for Dharma Productions. This film was announced in November 2023, with plans to start shooting in 2024 and release during the Independence Day weekend in 2025. However, the project never progressed beyond the development stage due to two main reasons: the makers were unable to secure the life rights of the real-life figure on whom Kartik’s character was based, and the escalating budget made the production financially unviable for the banner at that point.
Kartik Aaryan’s Busy Schedule
The latest project adds to Kartik Aaryan’s already packed lineup. The actor is currently one of the busiest young stars in Bollywood, with half a dozen films in various stages of production. He has completed shooting for Mrigdeep Singh Lamba’s “Naagzilla,” while Anurag Basu’s musical romance and Kabir Khan’s sports drama are currently in production. Additionally, Kartik is set to begin Shimit Amin’s “Captain India” in September. He is expected to take on the Sandeep Modi film only after fulfilling these prior commitments.
