Bharti Airtel Reports Q3 Earnings: Net Profit Declines 55% to Rs 6,630 Crore

Bharti Airtel has reported a significant drop in its consolidated net profit for the December 2025 quarter, with earnings plummeting approximately 55% year-on-year to Rs 6,630.5 crore. This decline is attributed to rising network operating costs, statutory fees, and employee expenses. In contrast, the telecom giant had recorded a profit of Rs 14,781.2 crore during the same period last year. Despite these challenges, Bharti Airtel continues to experience robust revenue growth, highlighting the ongoing demand for its services.

Financial Performance Overview

In its latest financial results, Bharti Airtel revealed a consolidated revenue from operations of Rs 53,982 crore for the December 2025 quarter, marking a 19.6% increase from Rs 45,129.3 crore in the previous year. The company’s performance in India was particularly noteworthy, with revenue rising to Rs 39,226 crore, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 13.2%. This growth was bolstered by a 9.1% increase in mobile revenue, driven by improved pricing strategies and a growing subscriber base. The overall customer base for Bharti Airtel expanded by 11.8% to reach 57.6 crore, with the Indian segment growing by 12.6% to 41.38 crore and the African market increasing by 10% to 17.93 crore users.

Cost Pressures Impact Profitability

Despite the strong revenue figures, Bharti Airtel faced significant cost pressures that impacted its profitability. The company’s capital expenditure surged by approximately 28% to Rs 11,787 crore, compared to Rs 9,161 crore in the December 2024 quarter. In India, capital expenditure rose by 16% to Rs 9,249.5 crore from Rs 7,979.5 crore a year earlier. Additionally, the outlay for license fees and spectrum charges increased by about 7% to Rs 3,846 crore, while employee expenses climbed 21% to Rs 1,958 crore. These rising costs have contributed to the sharp decline in net profit, underscoring the challenges faced by the telecom sector.

Average Revenue Per User and Strategic Insights

Bharti Airtel also reported an improvement in its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), a critical metric for telecom companies. ARPU increased by 5.7% to Rs 259 during the quarter, up from Rs 245 in the same period last year. Gopal Vittal, the Executive Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, emphasized the company’s strong operational strategy, noting that the quarter demonstrated resilience and growth. He highlighted that the consolidated revenue of Rs 53,982 crore represented a sequential growth of 3.5%, showcasing the effectiveness of the company’s diversified portfolio. Vittal also pointed out that the Africa segment delivered impressive performance, with constant currency revenue growth of 5.8%, attributed to the deployment of their homegrown digital solutions.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Bharti Airtel remains focused on navigating the challenges posed by rising costs while capitalizing on the growing demand for its services. The company’s strategic investments in infrastructure and technology are expected to enhance its competitive edge in both the Indian and African markets. As the telecom landscape continues to evolve, Bharti Airtel’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction will be crucial in maintaining its growth trajectory and addressing the pressures on profitability. The company aims to leverage its strengths to adapt to changing market dynamics and sustain its position as a leading player in the telecommunications sector.
