Team India Star Withdrawn from First Test Against South Africa: BCCI Clarifies Reasons
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been released from India’s squad for the first Test against South Africa, which is set to commence on November 14 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this decision via a media advisory on Wednesday. Following his release, Reddy will join the India A team for a One-day series against South Africa A in Rajkot, scheduled from November 13 to 19. He is anticipated to return to the senior team for the second Test in Guwahati after the conclusion of the ‘A’ series.
As India prepares for a pivotal two-Test series against the reigning World Test Champions, the management is fine-tuning their squad. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate emphasized that the team has a clear strategy for the opening match. He stated, “I think we’ve got a pretty good idea of the combination.” The selection process has been influenced by team balance and the expected conditions for the match. Ten Doeschate noted that Reddy’s limited game time in Australia played a role in the decision to release him, given the significance of the upcoming series.
Key Player Updates
Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who has been in outstanding form, is set to feature in the playing XI alongside Rishabh Pant. Jurel has recently made headlines by scoring back-to-back centuries for India A against South Africa A, solidifying his place in the squad. His performance will be crucial as India aims to establish a strong foothold in the series against South Africa.
Updated Squad for the First Test
India’s revised squad for the first Test includes captain Shubman Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, and other notable players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja. The complete lineup also features Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep. This series marks South Africa’s first Test tour of India since 2019, when India achieved a clean sweep of 3-0. Following the two-Test series, both teams will compete in three ODIs and five T20Is, making this an exciting period for cricket fans as both teams strive to improve their standings in the World Test Championship.
