State Bank of India Welcomes 541 New Probationary Officers to Enhance Leadership Capacity

The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest bank, has made a significant stride in bolstering its leadership team with the recruitment of 541 Probationary Officers (POs). This initiative, announced on December 19, 2025, reflects SBI’s commitment to fostering a future-ready workforce, capable of meeting the evolving demands of the banking sector.

A Focused Recruitment Drive

This latest recruitment phase follows the successful onboarding of 505 POs earlier in June 2025. By filling these 541 positions, SBI reiterates its ongoing strategy to enhance its human resources and develop a robust leadership pipeline. The selected POs will be assigned to various business verticals across the nation, with some roles including opportunities for international postings, providing a dynamic avenue for professional advancement.

Process of Selection

The recruitment process initiated with online preliminary examinations in August, leading to more stringent main examinations in September. Top candidates from these assessments were then subjected to a comprehensive evaluation process, which included psychometric tests, group exercises, and personal interviews. This thorough selection procedure ensured that only the most capable individuals were chosen to join SBI’s ranks.

Plans for Future Hiring

SBI has ambitious plans for expansion, targeting the addition of 18,000 new employees in the fiscal year 2026. Out of these, approximately 3,000 positions are earmarked for probationary and local-based officers, with around 13,500 positions dedicated to clerical roles. Shri CS Setty, SBI’s Chairman, highlighted that this influx of talent will play a crucial role in enhancing service delivery and adapting to technological advancements within the banking industry.

Commitment to Employment and Development

With a workforce exceeding 246,000 employees, SBI stands as one of the leading employers in the financial sector, emphasizing significant employment generation. The bank aims to reinforce its human resource capabilities through structured skill development programs, ensuring that its team is well-equipped to meet customer service demands and navigate technological changes effectively.
