Ozempic’s Impact on the Emerging Beauty Market: Lip Plumpers, Collagen, and More
Weight-loss medications like Ozempic are significantly impacting the beauty industry, prompting companies to adapt to the evolving needs of consumers. As the popularity of GLP-1 drugs, including Ozempic and Mounjaro, increases, brands are launching products aimed at addressing the nutritional gaps created by rapid weight loss. These products range from protein-rich foods and collagen supplements to innovative beauty items designed for users experiencing changes in their appearance due to these medications.
Emerging Beauty Gaps
The beauty sector is capitalizing on the effects of swift weight loss. Brands such as Sugar Cosmetics and HUL’s Lakme are introducing plumping, non-invasive makeup options as alternatives to traditional procedures like lip fillers. Radhika Ghai, founder of the premium cosmetics e-commerce platform Kindlife, noted that the rise in GLP-1 drug usage is generating a new demand for specific beauty products.
“This is the biggest new demand driver beauty has had in a decade, and it’s coming out of a pharmacy, not a trend cycle,” Ghai stated. She explained that rapid weight loss from these medications often leads to a loss of facial volume, skin elasticity, and hair, creating a consistent customer base for products focused on barrier repair, collagen support, and firming body care. Unlike seasonal trends, this demand is expected to grow alongside the patient population.
Nestle, Tata Consumer Eye Nutrition Opportunity
Nestle India is actively addressing the nutritional needs of individuals undergoing GLP-1 therapy. The company is collaborating with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories through a joint venture to develop various products tailored for this demographic. A spokesperson confirmed that their joint venture has introduced Celevida GLP+, a nutritional supplement designed for those on GLP-1 therapy.
Tata Consumer Products is also preparing to launch products aimed at consumers using GLP-1 medications. Managing director Sunil D’Souza mentioned that the company is exploring options for protein and fiber-rich waters and snacks to help mitigate the side effects of weight loss. “We are working towards how to play in this space where, because of increasing consumption of GLP-1 products, people consume less protein, fiber, prebiotics, and probiotics,” he said.
