NHAI Launches Online FASTag Local Pass for Seamless Toll Access

In a significant step towards realizing the Government of India’s Digital India vision, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the online facility for FASTag ‘Local Passes’ at 121 toll plazas nationwide. This innovative service, now accessible via the Rajmargyatra Mobile App, allows eligible commuters to procure a monthly Local Pass without the hassle of manual paperwork and physical visits to toll plazas, aiming to enhance convenience and streamline National Highway travel.

The initiative is designed to make the toll experience faster and more efficient by utilizing technology. By shifting the application process online, NHAI hopes to improve transparency and operational efficiency in tolling procedures, putting user convenience at the forefront.

The launch of the Digital Local Pass began in July 2026 at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi. Following its initial success, the program has now expanded to over 120 additional toll plazas across the country, with plans to continue rolling it out to more locations in the months ahead.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Residents residing within a 20 km radius of eligible toll plazas are invited to apply for the Local Pass through the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. This pass grants users unlimited travel through their respective toll plazas for an entire month, underlining its practical advantages. Previously, obtaining a Local Pass required in-person visits to the toll plaza to submit residency verification documents, which was both time-consuming and inefficient.

To check the list of eligible toll plazas, users can visit Rajmargyatra.

Advanced Technology Ensuring Seamless Access

The Digital Local Pass service relies on a sophisticated integration with government digital platforms like DigiLocker and VAHAN. This integration allows the system to automatically verify essential details including the commuter’s residential address, vehicle information, and linked FASTag. Additionally, a geographic information system (GIS)-based verification confirms whether an applicant’s address lies within the mandated 20 km zone of the eligible toll plaza.

The use of verified digital data combined with GIS validation not only simplifies the application process but also enhances the accuracy and transparency of eligibility checks. By minimizing the need for manual documentation and physical verification, NHAI aims to significantly improve the efficiency of local toll services for eligible commuters.

Through the digitalization of the Local Pass, NHAI further demonstrates its commitment to citizen-centric services, paving the way for a more streamlined and technologically advanced National Highway Network across India.
