L&T Secures Major Orders from SAIL to Boost India’s Steel Production Capacity
Chandigarh, January 03, 2026: Larsen & Toubro’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) division has successfully clinched significant contracts from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and other entities. These contracts focus on EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects and products aimed at enhancing India’s metals sector.

Expanding Crude Steel Capacity
SAIL’s ambitious modernization initiative aims to elevate the crude steel production capacity at the IISCO Steel Plant located in Burnpur, West Bengal, from 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to an impressive 6.5 MTPA. As part of this transformative project, L&T has been entrusted with the comprehensive engineering, procurement, and installation responsibilities for vital process facilities, including the Coke Oven Battery and Basic Oxygen Furnace, alongside specialized equipment for material handling.
Strengthening Presence at Bokaro
In addition to the expansion at Burnpur, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand is also witnessing a significant upstream expansion, where L&T will spearhead the development of Sinter Plant #2. This further solidifies L&T’s influential position within the steel industry.
Versatile Solutions for Clients
Beyond these noteworthy projects, L&T’s M&M division has successfully secured additional contracts for advanced material handling equipment, such as Stacker Reclaimers and Wagon Tipplers, from a diverse array of clients across India.
