Indian Equity Markets Open Cautiously Amid Year-End Uncertainties
Indian equity markets commenced trading with a sense of caution on the first trading day of the week, reflecting a largely flat sentiment driven by thin year-end liquidity and subdued global cues. Investors are taking a selective stance as they keep an eye on critical market triggers, including the forthcoming Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data and the impending futures and options (F&O) monthly expiry. This setup reinforces a range-bound trading bias, as market participants navigate through this uncertain period.
Nifty 50 Movement
The Nifty 50 index is currently consolidating within the 26,000–26,100 range, following a slight pullback from recent peaks. The overarching market structure remains positive, with the long-term trend showcasing higher highs and higher lows. Maintaining levels above 26,100 is key for a constructive short-term outlook, potentially driving the index towards resistance levels between 26,200 and 26,300. However, 26,000 is significant support, aligning with the 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). A drop below this threshold could lead to increased selling pressure, possibly extending towards 25,950.
Bank Nifty Overview
Meanwhile, the Bank Nifty index is trading within the 59,000–59,150 zone, exhibiting stability yet lagging slightly due to concerns pertaining to interest rates. The index is consolidating near its 20-day EMA at approximately 59,112, with intraday dips being quickly bought. Maintaining above 59,000 is crucial for a favorable medium-term outlook, while robust support lies in the 58,900–58,700 region. A significant move below 59,000 may trigger short-term selling.
Sensex Performance
The Sensex is closely following the Nifty’s lead, holding around the 85,000 mark, while still intact within its long-term upward trend despite recent profit-taking activities. Immediate support is observed in the 84,700–84,400 range, with resistance levels set at 85,400–85,700. A decisive breach below 85,000 could indicate short-term weakness, making it essential for traders to monitor these indicators closely.
Currency and Commodities Outlook
In the forex market, the USD/INR pair is trading softly higher at around 89.80, bolstered by renewed dollar demand amidst year-end positioning. On the commodities front, precious metals continue to attract interest as safe-haven assets amid escalating geopolitical risks. Gold futures are nearing historical highs, while silver remains a strong contender for outperformance due to robust industrial demand.
