Delhi High Court Delays Salman Khan’s Kala Hiran Petition Hearing; Rescheduled for July 1

The Delhi High Court has postponed the hearing on actor Salman Khan’s plea to halt the filming, promotion, and release of the upcoming film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.” The decision came after the filmmakers’ counsel requested more time to respond to Khan’s application. The case was presented before the vacation bench of Justice Madhu Jain, who has rescheduled the matter for July 1.
Salman Khan’s legal team argues that the film and its promotional content are based on incidents related to him, infringing on his personality and publicity rights. The actor claims that he did not give consent for the project, which allegedly references events from his life and legal history.
Salman Khan Seeks Interim Relief
During the court proceedings, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Salman Khan, urged for interim protection against the film’s release and promotional activities. “He is producing a film on my life and tearing up the notice. He has no right to make a film of my life. I am seeking an interim injunction. The teaser has already been released,” Sethi stated.
Khan’s legal team contends that the filmmakers did not obtain the actor’s consent, despite the film’s apparent ties to his life. The filmmakers’ counsel, however, requested additional time to respond, claiming they had only recently received a copy of Khan’s application.
Dispute Over Alleged Use of Actor’s Identity
Khan’s plea focuses on allegations that “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy” draws inspiration from the 1998 blackbuck hunting case, even though the actor is not explicitly named. The application points out that promotional materials for the film contain visual and contextual references that make Khan identifiable to the public. A poster released in May 2026 reportedly features a character resembling the actor, complete with a bracelet similar to Khan’s signature blue one.
Additionally, Khan has raised concerns about promotional content depicting a character with a firearm, arguing that such portrayals could mislead the public, especially since he was acquitted in related Arms Act proceedings.
Concerns Over Pending Legal Matters
The application further claims that parts of the film are based on issues still pending in higher courts. Khan’s legal team argues that releasing such material could sway public opinion and impact ongoing legal cases. Sethi emphasized that the filmmakers should not be allowed to use Khan’s identity and public image for promotional purposes without proper authorization.
The filmmakers opposed the request for interim relief. During the hearing, their counsel revealed that he had been receiving death threats and had filed a police report regarding the matter. After considering arguments from both sides, the court noted that the filmmakers had only recently received the complete pleadings and directed Khan’s legal team to provide all relevant documents to the respondents that day.
