Asian Markets Mixed as Indian Equity Indices Set for Flat Opening
The Indian equity markets are poised for a tepid start with GIFT Nifty futures reflecting a marginal gain of 24 points at around 26,100. This slight uptick indicates a cautiously optimistic sentiment among investors, despite the thin liquidity expected as the year draws to a close. While Asian markets are showing mixed signals, the predominant theme seems to suggest selective trading rather than widespread confidence.
Market Performance Overview
Japan’s Nikkei 225 has experienced a slight pullback, falling approximately 0.30%, while South Korea’s KOSPI stands out with a robust rise of nearly 1.5%. This divergence emphasizes a trend of selective risk appetite that varies significantly across different markets in the region.
Nifty 50 Indicates Caution
The Nifty 50 index continues to hover within a narrow consolidation range, with the psychological threshold set at 26,000 acting as a crucial support level. Traders are on high alert as a drop below this mark could accelerate a corrective move towards the 25,900-25,800 range, aligning with recent swing lows and the 50-day moving average. On the resistance front, 26,160 is viewed as immediate resistance, with a broader supply area located between 26,250 and 26,300. A sustained close above 26,300 is crucial for signaling a stronger upward trajectory towards 26,500 in the coming sessions.
Bank Nifty Stability Amid Broader Market Caution
Similarly, Bank Nifty is expected to demonstrate stability, maintaining a relative strength compared to the wider market. Immediate support for Bank Nifty is positioned around 58,900, with a secondary layer of support at 58,800. Conversely, resistance levels are identified near 59,200, followed by a supply zone extending from 59,300 to 59,500. Current options positioning indicates considerable call writing in the 59,100-59,500 range, combined with robust put support around 59,000, highlighting the existing range-bound conditions.
Market Outlook for the Year-End
With fewer trading days left in 2025, trading volumes are likely to remain subdued, influenced by holiday-related trading patterns. Factors such as ongoing foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows and global macroeconomic uncertainties continue to inhibit aggressive upward movement. Nonetheless, solid domestic fundamentals and consistent local flows are offering crucial support against downside risks. During this period, market participants are expected to remain vigilant, particularly with upcoming Indian Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data and various global indicators likely to influence short-term trading strategies.
