Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu assumed charge as Election Commissioners in the Election Commission of India today.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar, extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Election Commissioner at Nirvachan Sadan. He emphasized the significance of their joining at this historic point when the ECI team is all set to conduct the General Elections 2024 in the world’s largest democracy. The next twelve weeks will be action-packed and intense.
On March 14, 2024, a notification was published in the Gazette regarding the appointment of the Election Commissioners. Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu are both officers from the 1988 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. Shri Gyanesh Kumar belongs to the Kerala cadre, while Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is from the Uttarakhand cadre.
