Dhurandhar 2 Production Faces Setback as BMC Moves for Permanent Blacklisting of Aditya Dhar’s Banner

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken decisive action against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s production company, B62 Studios, due to alleged violations during the filming of Dhurandhar: The Revenge in Mumbai. The civic body has recommended that the production house be permanently blacklisted from obtaining future filming permits, citing a history of repeated breaches of regulations. This decision follows a series of incidents during a recent shoot that raised safety concerns.

Details of the Allegations

The controversy began during a shoot that took place on February 7 and 8 in South Mumbai, specifically between Modi Street and Perin Nariman Street. The production team had received permission for this schedule on January 30 from the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited. However, BMC officials allege that the team violated specific police conditions that prohibited the use of fireworks and other flammable materials on set. Following these alleged infractions, a subsequent request for filming on February 13 and 14 was denied by the authorities, citing the earlier violations.

Second Incident and Immediate Response

After the initial violations, B62 Studios submitted a new application for filming during the early hours of February 14. This request received conditional approval after the production team assured the authorities that no flammable materials would be used. However, complaints were made to the police shortly after filming began, alleging the use of flammable torches. BMC officials responded quickly, arriving at the scene within 15 minutes and seizing five lit torches. Following this incident, the production team indicated that they would use visual effects (VFX) to create fire-related visuals instead.

Proposed Penalties and Blacklisting Measures

In light of these repeated violations, the BMC has proposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh against B62 Studios for unauthorized activities, including filming on a building terrace and using two generator vans without proper authorization. Additionally, the security deposit of Rs 25,000 submitted by the applicants has been forfeited. The A ward office is seeking formal approval to register the seized items and impose penalties on the applicants, Komal Pokhriyal and Nashir Khan, alongside B62 Studios. If the proposal is approved, it would effectively bar the production house and the named individuals from obtaining future filming permissions through the state film corporation portal.
