Mukesh Khanna Takes a Stand: Calls for Apologies from Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff Over Vimal Elaichi Ads
Mukesh Khanna has recently voiced his concerns regarding celebrity endorsements of Vimal Elaichi, specifically targeting Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff. The actor took to Instagram to express his discontent, questioning the ethics behind promoting elaichi advertisements that he believes indirectly endorse Vimal Pan Masala. His remarks come in light of legal notices issued by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning these advertisements.
Responsibility of Celebrities in Endorsements
In his Instagram video, Mukesh Khanna emphasized the responsibility that prominent actors hold when endorsing products. He questioned why celebrities, often seen as role models, would participate in advertisements that could potentially mislead audiences. “I would like to start by saying that the government and the FDA have sent a notice to three big artists,” he stated, expressing his surprise at the delayed action regarding products he described as banned in Maharashtra.
Khanna further criticized the financial motivations behind celebrity endorsements. He remarked, “And now, what I have been saying for a long time, big artists who think they are good people and lead a good life are showing people the wrong way to live.” He urged these celebrities to reconsider their involvement in such advertisements, suggesting that even if they promote elaichi, they are still indirectly endorsing the associated brand.
Call for Accountability
Mukesh Khanna has called on Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff to publicly address the issue and apologize for their endorsements. He believes that celebrities with significant influence should be aware of the messages their advertisements convey. “I would even say that these actors should move forward and publicly apologise for making a wrong ad,” he asserted. Khanna insists that it is their duty to correct the narrative and clarify that such products are not suitable for consumption.
The discussion surrounding surrogate advertising has gained traction, particularly with celebrities endorsing products like elaichi or mouth fresheners that are linked to pan masala and tobacco items. This has sparked public debate over whether these advertisements inadvertently promote products that are subject to legal restrictions.
