Namit Malhotra Discusses Bringing Ramayana to Life in ScreenX and 4DX
Prime Focus Studios founder and DNEG Global CEO Namit Malhotra is set to elevate his ambitious two-part cinematic retelling of the Ramayana through a groundbreaking partnership with CJ 4DPLEX. As previously reported by Bollywood Hungama, Ramayana Part 1 will make history as the first Indian film to release in SCREENX worldwide. This collaboration promises to bring a new dimension to the film, with exclusive insights from the executives involved.
A Global Cinematic Experience
Namit Malhotra expressed his vision for Ramayana, emphasizing its design as a global theatrical experience from the very beginning. “From the outset, Ramayana was designed as a global cinematic experience,” he stated. Malhotra believes that the partnership with CJ 4DPLEX will allow audiences to engage with the film in innovative formats that align with its grand scope and vision. He added, “SCREENX and 4DX invite audiences to engage with the story in a powerful new way.”
The collaboration will see Ramayana Part 1, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, released in over 1,200 SCREENX and 4DX auditoriums globally. The film is set to arrive during Diwali 2026, marking a significant milestone for Indian cinema.
Immersive Formats for Epic Storytelling
For CJ 4DPLEX, the scale and visual ambition of Ramayana made it a perfect candidate for its immersive formats. CEO Jun Bang noted that the film embodies the kind of theatrical spectacle that SCREENX and 4DX were designed for. “Ramayana: Part 1 is exactly the type of epic, event-level spectacle that is designed to be experienced through the full immersive capabilities of SCREENX and 4DX,” Bang remarked.
Don Savant, Chief Business Officer of CJ 4DPLEX, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the film’s combination of scale, emotion, and action. “We are thrilled to partner with Prime Focus Studios to bring this extraordinary film to global audiences in our premium formats,” Savant said. He emphasized that the film provides an exceptional canvas for both SCREENX and 4DX, enhancing the viewing experience.
A Milestone for Indian Cinema
The partnership holds particular significance as Ramayana Part 1 will be the first Indian film to debut in SCREENX. This format expands selected sequences onto the auditorium’s side walls, creating a 270-degree panoramic view that allows audiences to experience key moments beyond the traditional cinema frame. Savant believes this debut could be a pivotal moment for both audiences and exhibitors. “As the first Indian film to debut in SCREENX, it also represents an exciting milestone for audiences and exhibitors alike,” he stated.
The 4DX presentation will complement the expanded visual canvas of SCREENX, offering a multisensory experience with motion-enabled seating and environmental effects such as wind, water, vibration, lighting, and scents. These effects will be synchronized with specially formatted sequences from the film, enhancing the overall experience.
As premium cinema formats gain traction in India, Ramayana aims to redefine the scale of the Indian theatrical experience. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana Part 1 features a star-studded cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, and Sunny Deol. The film is scheduled for a global release during Diwali 2026, with Ramayana Part 2 currently in production and set for a Diwali 2027 release.
