Jharkhand’s Amrapali Mangoes Make International Debut in Dubai
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), part of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, announced a significant milestone in agricultural exports. On July 3, 2026, two metric tonnes of the renowned Amrapali mangoes were exported from the Aspirational District of Gumla and the Aspirational Block of Deoghar in Jharkhand to Dubai. This consignment, shipped by M/s Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd., aims to reach customers through Lulu stores across Dubai, marking a momentous achievement in the promotion of exports from tribal and women-led farmer collectives.
The shipment consisted of high-quality Amrapali mangoes sourced from three women-led Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) nurtured by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). One metric tonne was procured from APEDA-registered MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Limited and Raidih Agri Producer Company Limited located in Gumla district. The other metric tonne came from the Mohanpur Ajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Society in Deoghar. These orchards were cultivated by tribal women farmers under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, a program implemented alongside MGNREGA and supported by the Government of Jharkhand.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by key officials including the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Development Commissioner of the respective districts, along with representatives from APEDA and JSLPS. This event represented successful teamwork among APEDA, the Government of Jharkhand, local administrations, women-led FPCs, exporters, and various development partners in linking rural producers to the international marketplace.
This export initiative has financial implications for the participating farmers, who are experiencing returns nearly 180 percent higher than those in local markets. This development not only highlights the economic benefits of accessing export markets but also encourages the participation of women in agriculture geared towards international commerce. Each of these FPCs has over 1,500 shareholders, collectively supporting more than 50,000 farmers within the community.
APEDA’s ongoing commitment to developing export-ready farmer collectives includes significant capacity building, quality enhancement, and market facilitation. In May 2026, APEDA organized a specialized training program in Palkot, Gumla district, educating members and Board of Directors from eight Farmer Producer Companies on international standards, post-harvest handling, and necessary export protocols.
Additionally, on September 19, 2025, APEDA’s Kolkata Regional Office hosted an Export-Oriented Capacity Development Programme specifically for women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups in Baswariya village, Deoghar. The event saw participation from around 105 attendees, including women entrepreneurs, representatives from Farmer Producer Organisations, and officials from various governmental departments. The focus was on raising awareness about APEDA’s roles and the financial support available to empower women in global agricultural trade.
This initiative showcases the immense export potential of Jharkhand’s horticulture sector and reflects APEDA’s relentless efforts to reinforce women-led farmer collectives through training, market connections, and export facilitation.
