New Bilingual BBA Program Aims to Bridge Rural-Urban Divide
In an inspiring move to enhance education accessibility, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, announced today the launch of a bilingual Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Udaipur. Addressing the inauguration virtually from New Delhi, the Minister emphasized that this innovative online program will enable talented students from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their circumstances, to pursue quality management education in both Hindi and English.
Bringing Quality Education to All
Shri Goyal highlighted that by adopting a bilingual educational approach, the initiative can extend the credibility and quality of IIM education to a broader audience. He expressed confidence that this undergraduate program will not only benefit individual students but also contribute positively to the Indian industry.
Expanding Digital Learning Opportunities
With approximately 100 crore internet users in India, the Minister stressed the necessity of leveraging digital technology to deliver quality education on a larger scale, aligning with the New Education Policy. “The classrooms of IIM will now be visible on the screen,” he stated, envisioning access for learners from rural areas to urban centers, whether they connect via smartphones or laptops.
Suggestions for Strengthening Education Delivery
Shri Goyal proposed four key recommendations to enhance the program’s effectiveness. Firstly, he urged the development of a hybrid teaching model that includes regular faculty visits and opportunities for student gatherings, enhancing the learning experience through interaction.
Secondly, he highlighted the importance of soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and cultural exchanges. The Minister also advocated for experiential learning opportunities like visits to businesses and industrial sites, enabling students to acquire hands-on management experience.
Lastly, he recommended the adoption of global best practices, including incorporating digital tools and facilitating research internships in students’ final year to prepare them for future careers.
Empowering Future Leaders
Addressing the prospective students, Shri Goyal expressed his optimism about the program, encouraging them to seize the opportunities arising from new free trade agreements that invigorate India’s manufacturing sector. He underscored the critical role of education, coupled with practical experience, in preparing students for real-world challenges.
The Digital Transformation of Education
Reflecting on the impact of technology, the Minister noted how the CVOID-19 pandemic accelerated the integration of education and digital platforms. As educational institutions shifted online during lockdowns, EdTech companies became essential tools for learning. This shift is seen as a significant step in bridging the gap between rural and urban education.
A Vision for the Future
As the global landscape evolves with advancements in technology and changing job market demands, Shri Goyal emphasized the need for dynamic learning models. He believes that the new BBA program at IIM Udaipur exemplifies this approach by combining virtual and physical learning experiences to support students on their educational journey.
