International Human Solidarity Day is observed every year on 20 December. Its main goal is to recognize the universal value of solidarity by making member states aware of global aims and initiatives to reduce poverty and to formulate and share poverty reduction strategies of independent nations around the world.
The day celebrate our unity in diversity, remind governments to respect their commitments to international agreements, raise public awareness of the importance of solidarity, encourage debate on the ways to promote solidarity for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals including poverty eradication, and encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.
In addition to observance for International Human Solidarity Day, there are numerous other days which are thematic and relevant to the day. International Day of Peace is observed on 21 September, International Day of Friendship is observed on 30 July. Whereas International Day of Non-Violence and International Day for Tolerance is observed on 2 October and 16 November, respectively. Another thematic day is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development which is observed on 21 May.

History of International Human Solidarity Day
There is no doubt that solidarity is a key value for international relations in the 21st century, as outlined in the United Nations Millennium Declaration: “Global challenges must be handled fairly, according to the principles of social justice and equity.” We must provide assistance to those who suffer or who benefit least from our well-being.” Convinced that a culture of solidarity and a spirit of sharing was crucial to combating poverty and accomplishing the eight Millennium Development Goals, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 20 December as International Human Solidarity Day.
