Flipkart Expands Advantage Over Amazon Amid Rapid Growth in Quick Commerce

Flipkart is outpacing Amazon in user growth in India, solidifying its position as the leading online retail platform. According to a Goldman Sachs report, Flipkart and Myntra together captured 35% of the country’s monthly active user (MAU) share year-to-date. This marks a significant increase in their lead over Amazon, which has nearly doubled from 9 percentage points in 2022 to 17 percentage points currently.

Flipkart’s User Base Grows as Amazon Contracts

Flipkart’s MAU base saw a robust 15% year-on-year growth in July 2026, a sharp increase from just 3% in the previous fiscal year’s fourth quarter. In contrast, Amazon’s MAU base has contracted between 1% and 6% year-on-year during the same period. The disparity extends to transaction value as well, with Flipkart maintaining a consistent 10-percentage-point lead over Amazon in gross merchandise value (GMV) since 2019.

The Goldman Sachs report indicates that Flipkart’s share of GMV has consistently surpassed its share of MAUs. While quick-commerce platforms are gaining traction in app usage, they account for a smaller portion of overall transaction value compared to traditional e-commerce platforms.

Flipkart Minutes Scales Up Rapidly

The dynamics of India’s online retail market are shifting, with quick commerce expanding beyond groceries and convenience items. Flipkart is capitalizing on this trend through its quick-commerce service, Flipkart Minutes, launched in August 2024. The service is now processing between 1.1 million and 1.2 million orders daily, a significant increase from approximately 390,000-400,000 orders in November.

This growth positions Flipkart Minutes close to Swiggy Instamart, which handles around 1.4 million orders per day. Blinkit and Zepto remain the largest players in the quick-commerce sector by order volume. The rapid expansion of India’s e-commerce market, particularly in quick and value commerce, is intensifying competition among platforms as Flipkart continues to extend its lead over Amazon.
