NCSC Launches Inquiry into Punjab Man’s Death After Allegations
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has taken significant action following the tragic death of Gulzar Singh, a resident of Sangrur district in Punjab. The Commission has issued a formal notice to the Punjab Government, prompted by serious allegations made by Singh prior to his passing.
According to the complaint, Gulzar Singh had raised concerns regarding the narcotics issue in Punjab directly to the Finance Minister. In a video that circulated on social media shortly before his death, Singh alleged that he had consumed poison out of fear and pointed fingers at specific members of the village panchayat, claiming they were involved in the issue he was addressing.
Independent Inquiry Ordered
In response to these disturbing allegations, the NCSC, utilizing its powers under Article 338 of the Indian Constitution, has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death. The Commission has sent notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Punjab, demanding a comprehensive report on the matter and the actions taken concerning the allegations within five days of receipt.
Calls for Accountability
The inquiry was initiated following a complaint by Shri Sheetal Angural, former MLA and State President of the BJP SC Morcha, Punjab. NCSC Chairman, Shri Kishor Makwana, emphasized the seriousness of this situation. He stated that the claims made in the video against a Minister and certain village panchayat members necessitate a fair and high-level investigation.
To further investigate the claims, Makwana announced his visit to Sangrur scheduled for September 10, 2026. He aims to personally assess the situation and verify the allegations raised by Singh.
