CSD Review Meeting: Enhancements for Defence Community Services
In a significant move aimed at optimizing the Canteen Services Department (CSD), Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth convened the 80th meeting of the Board of Control Canteen Services (BOCCS) on July 14, 2026, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The meeting focused on vital operational and administrative matters designed to boost efficiency and improve service quality for serving personnel, ex-servicemen, and their dependents.
Future-Forward Initiatives
Discussion points during the meeting included proposals for enhanced budgetary support for the CSD, modernization of depots, and the extension of Central and State Government subsidies on electric two-wheelers acquired through CSD channels. Another key focus was the inducting of products from diverse cooperative institutions into the CSD supply chain and addressing various human resource-related issues. Senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Defence Services, and CSD were present at the meeting.
Commitment to Indigenous Products
During the meeting, Shri Sanjay Seth highlighted the ongoing transformation of CSD, attributing it to sustained reforms and a beneficiary-centric approach that resonates with the evolving needs of the Defence Forces community. In alignment with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” “Sehkar se Samriddhi,” and “Vocal for Local,” the CSD is diligently promoting indigenous products across its network.
Product Portfolio Expansion
Referring to decisions made during the previous meeting in March 2026, Shri Seth noted the gradual induction of products from organizations such as the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, and National Cooperative Organics Limited into the CSD product portfolio. He stated that these initiatives will enhance market access for local artisans, tribal communities, farmers, and cooperative institutions, thereby supporting indigenous manufacturing and fostering inclusive economic growth. Additionally, it was discussed that assistive devices should be made available for the divyangjans within the Defence Forces community, ex-servicemen, and their dependents.
Modernization of CSD Facilities
As part of his visit, Raksha Rajya Mantri examined the CSD Depot Ramgarh, one of five pilot depots slated for modernization. He assessed the current infrastructure and ongoing initiatives to evolve the depot into a state-of-the-art warehousing and logistics facility capable of satisfying the increasing operational demands of the CSD. This modernization is expected to set a precedent for the gradual upgrade of CSD depots nationwide.
Welfare Initiatives for Ex-Servicemen
Shri Sanjay Seth also evaluated various welfare initiatives aimed at supporting ex-servicemen through Canteen Services. He commended the ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and service delivery, ensuring greater convenience for veterans and their families. The Raksha Rajya Mantri reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of the Defence Forces community and stressed the importance of ongoing innovation and effective implementation of programs centered around beneficiaries.
