India Post Achieves Historic Q1 Revenue Milestone

The Department of Posts held its Quarterly Business Review Meeting for the first quarter of FY 2026–27 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, led by Union Minister of Communications and DoNER, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. The meeting gathered Heads of Postal Circles from across India to evaluate the Department’s performance and outline its future roadmap for business transformation.

In his address, Union Minister Scindia expressed satisfaction with the encouraging start to FY 2026–27. India Post achieved a remarkable revenue of ₹4,009 crore during the first quarter, marking a 22% year-on-year growth compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This figure also corresponds to 81% of the Department’s goal for the first quarter, which is part of an ambitious overall revenue target of ₹19,803 crore.

During the meeting, the Minister praised the hard work of the India Post team, emphasizing their dedication to enhancing service delivery and driving growth. This achievement reflects ongoing efforts in modernization and a shift towards customer-focused services under the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aiming to establish a digitally empowered postal network.

Highlights of the Meeting

At the meeting, the performance of six business verticals was reviewed: Mails, Parcels, Postal Life Insurance/Rural Postal Life Insurance (PLI/RPLI), Post Office Savings Bank (POSB), International Relations & Global Business (IR&GB), and Citizen Centric Services (CCS). Key achievements from these sectors were discussed:

  • CCS demonstrated the highest growth at 86%, followed by Parcels (50%), Mails (42%), IR&GB (34%), PLI/RPLI (20%), and POSB (10%).
  • India Post generated ₹4,009 crore against a quarterly target of ₹4,951 crore, achieving 81% of that target.
  • The top performing states in terms of overall performance included Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal.

Performance Across Circles

The meeting also recognized the best-performing Postal Circles for each business vertical, where notable achievements were recorded:

  • CCS: West Bengal (107%), Uttar Pradesh (106%).
  • Parcel: Bihar (121%), Tamil Nadu (115%).
  • Mail: Andhra Pradesh (106%).
  • PLI/RPLI: West Bengal (97%), Jammu & Kashmir (96%).
  • POSB: Chhattisgarh (124%), Andhra Pradesh (110%), Jharkhand (107%).
  • IR&GB: Kerala (83%), Rajasthan (81%).

Operational Efficiency and Future Direction

Minister Scindia highlighted marked improvements in operational efficiency, noting a significant drop in Branch Post Offices (BOs) reporting nil transactions. Reductions were seen in POSB (92%), PLI/RPLI (97%), and Speed Post & Parcel (99%) compared to last year.

The Union Minister announced plans for strengthened revenue generation and better financial sustainability, with the Expenditure Coverage Ratio (ECR) showing improvement from 28% to 32%. He encouraged all Postal Circles to continue fostering collaboration and learning through a cluster-based approach to enhance performance outcomes.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications, commended the Department’s remarkable growth. He attributed this success to the steady commitment and consistent performance from postal employees nationwide. Dr. Pemmasani emphasized the importance of teamwork and meticulous execution to maintain momentum towards achieving the Department’s ambitious revenue targets.
