New OPD Block Inaugurated at ESIC Hospital in Telangana

In a significant boost to healthcare in Telangana, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has inaugurated the newly constructed OPD Block at ESIC Hospital, Sanathnagar. This state-of-the-art facility, which was built at a cost of Rs. 211.13 crores, is set to serve over 12.3 lakh insured persons and beneficiaries across the state, enhancing access to essential medical services.

Emphasizing Worker Welfare

During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Mandaviya placed a strong emphasis on the importance of the nation’s workforce, stating that ‘Shram Shakti’ and ‘Yuva Shakti’ are vital pillars of national development. He highlighted that while advancements in technology and artificial intelligence play a role, the dignity and respect afforded to workers are paramount for nation-building. Under his guidance, he assured that values of ‘seva’ (service) and ‘samman’ (respect) for the workforce will continue to be central to government policy.

Enhancing Social Security

The Union Minister also discussed the government’s strides in improving social security for workers. He noted that the number of beneficiaries under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has soared from 7.5 crore a decade ago to more than 15 crore today. Citing International Labour Organization (ILO) data, he stated that social security coverage in India has increased from 19% in 2014 to over 64% presently, benefiting around 94 crore people. This growth includes several welfare initiatives by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, such as providing free food grains to over 80 crore people and building more than four crore pucca houses.

Labour Reforms and Future Vision

Dr. Mandaviya described recent labour reforms as transformative, with four new Labour Codes replacing 29 existing laws. These reforms aim to create a simpler, worker-centric labour environment, including provisions for mandatory appointment letters, annual health check-ups for workers over 40, equal pay for men and women, and gratuity rights after one year of service. He called for harmonious relations between employers and employees as crucial for cultivating a prosperous India.

A Commitment to Healthcare

As part of the ceremony, the minister honored the construction workers who contributed to the OPD Block’s development and distributed cash benefits to ESI beneficiaries, reiterating the government’s commitment to worker welfare. The new OPD Block is a landmark step towards improving healthcare infrastructure, offering comprehensive outpatient services. It will serve the insured population within Hyderabad and surrounding districts with a well-equipped facility spanning 43,611.04 square meters, featuring specialized departments and facilities including general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and more.

This inauguration is a clear indication of the government’s vision of ‘Shramev Jayate,’ focusing on the dignity, health, and rights of the workforce, thus reinforcing social security frameworks and paving the way for national progress.
