CBI Closes Sushant Singh Rajput Case, Media Under Fire

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, concluding that there is no evidence of murder. This decision aligns with the findings of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which determined that Rajput’s death on June 14, 2020, was a suicide. The closure report has reignited discussions about the media’s role in the case, particularly regarding the portrayal of Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s former girlfriend.

CBI’s Findings and Closure Report

Last week, the CBI submitted its closure report, stating that the investigation found no credible evidence to support claims of foul play in Rajput’s death. The agency’s conclusion mirrors the forensic analysis conducted by AIIMS, which ruled out homicide. The report effectively clears any suspicion surrounding Chakraborty and her family, who faced significant public scrutiny following Rajput’s tragic passing.

The CBI’s findings mark a significant turning point in a case that has captivated the nation for nearly four years. The agency emphasized that the lack of evidence meant that no charges could be brought against anyone involved. This closure not only brings a sense of finality to the investigation but also raises questions about the media’s influence in shaping public perception during the inquiry.

Subhash Chandra’s Apology to Rhea Chakraborty

In the wake of the CBI’s closure report, Subhash Chandra, a prominent media figure and Rajya Sabha MP, publicly addressed the media’s role in the case. He expressed regret over how Chakraborty was portrayed, suggesting that the media, particularly Zee News, contributed to her vilification. Chandra stated, “In retrospect, I feel that Rhea Chakraborty was made out an accused by media.”

As a mentor to Zee News, he urged the channel to acknowledge its part in the narrative and called for an apology to Chakraborty. He emphasized the need for accountability in journalism, stating, “I do apologize to Rhea, even with no involvement of mine.” His comments reflect a growing sentiment among public figures who criticize the media’s aggressive coverage of the case.

Calls for Responsible Journalism

The closure of the Sushant Singh Rajput case has prompted renewed discussions about the responsibilities of the media. Public figures, including actress Dia Mirza and Kubbra Sait, have voiced their concerns regarding the sensationalism that characterized the coverage of the case. They argue that the media’s portrayal of individuals involved can have lasting consequences on their lives and reputations.

The CBI’s findings serve as a reminder of the importance of ethical reporting and responsible journalism. As the case concludes, it highlights the need for media outlets to prioritize accuracy and fairness over sensationalism. The closure not only brings an end to years of speculation but also reinforces the critical role that media plays in shaping public discourse and opinion.
