Aamir Khan Announces Full-Time Acting Comeback at IFFI 2025 After Completing Current Projects

Aamir Khan captivated audiences during the final Fireside Chat at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), held at the Kala Academy. In a session moderated by renowned film critic Baradwaj Rangan, Khan shared personal insights into his journey in cinema and announced his full-time return to acting after completing his current projects. The conversation delved into his creative process, his approach to storytelling, and the significance of social themes in his films.

Aamir Khan’s Journey in Storytelling

During the session, Aamir Khan reflected on the roots of his passion for storytelling, tracing it back to his childhood memories. He fondly recalled listening to his grandmother’s tales and the enchanting stories broadcasted on the radio, particularly from Hawa Mahal. These early experiences, he noted, played a crucial role in shaping his creative instincts. “I’ve always been drawn to stories. They were a big part of my childhood, and that fascination has guided every choice I’ve made as an actor,” Khan stated. This deep connection to storytelling has influenced his career choices, leading him to seek out narratives that resonate with him on a personal level.

Khan emphasized the importance of instinct in his decision-making process. He expressed a reluctance to repeat himself, stating, “Once I’ve done a certain kind of film, I want to move on.” He is committed to exploring fresh and unique stories, often disregarding industry trends. “I choose films purely based on my emotional excitement for the story, even if it goes completely against the norm,” he explained. This approach has led him to take risks that many in the industry deemed impractical, yet these unconventional choices have often resulted in significant successes.

The Role of Social Themes in His Films

Aamir Khan addressed the social themes present in many of his films, clarifying that these elements arise organically rather than being a deliberate choice. “I never select a film thinking about which social topic to address next. I only look for scripts that excite me,” he explained. He acknowledged that if a script carries a social message, it is a bonus, but not the primary focus. Khan credited the writers behind his successful films, such as *Taare Zameen Par*, *3 Idiots*, *Dangal*, and *Laapataa Ladies*, for their ability to create compelling narratives that resonate with audiences.

Reflecting on his career, Khan shared that some of his most successful films were initially considered risky ventures. He recounted how even seasoned industry veterans advised against projects like *Lagaan*, yet those very choices helped him connect with audiences on a deeper level. “Most of my decisions have been impractical by industry standards. But somehow, those unconventional choices connected with people, and I’m deeply grateful,” he remarked.

A Major Career Shift Ahead

In a significant announcement, Aamir Khan revealed his intention to shift his focus back to acting after completing his current slate of projects, which include *Lahore 1947* and *Happy Patel*. He stated, “Once I complete the current slate of projects I’ve produced, I’m shifting my focus entirely back to acting from production.” This marks a pivotal moment in his career, as he plans to dedicate himself fully to acting. Khan expressed enthusiasm about hearing new scripts, mentioning that several have piqued his interest, with two or three standing out in particular.

Khan also touched upon his long-standing aspiration to direct films, describing direction as his “big love.” However, he acknowledged that taking on a directorial role would require him to step back from acting, a decision he is currently postponing. “The day I consciously decide to take up direction, I’ll probably stop acting because it will consume me completely,” he explained.

A Memorable Conclusion to IFFI 2025

The session concluded with Aamir Khan being honored by Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, marking a fitting end to the final Fireside Chat of IFFI 2025. The event not only showcased Khan’s insights into his career but also highlighted his commitment to storytelling and the transformative power of cinema. As he prepares for this new chapter in his career, fans eagerly await his return to the silver screen.
