Trump Acquires Stake in Musk’s SpaceX, Sells Portion Within a Week
US President Donald Trump has increased his investment in Elon Musk’s SpaceX, purchasing between $15,001 and $50,000 worth of shares in July. This acquisition is part of a busy trading month for Trump, who disclosed 1,156 transactions during the same period. The purchase occurred on July 10, with some shares sold just a week later on July 17.
Trump’s investment activities also included trading Tesla shares, with the total value of his transactions estimated between $79 million and $270 million. His purchases amounted to at least $43.6 million, while sales reached at least $35.6 million.
Trump’s Investments in Musk’s Companies
Earlier in June, Trump reported buying between $15,001 and $50,000 in SpaceX shares. SpaceX went public on June 12, achieving the largest IPO in US history, with a valuation of $1.77 trillion. The company serves as a significant contractor for the Pentagon and NASA, and it also owns Musk’s xAI, which has a Pentagon contract valued at up to $200 million.
In addition to SpaceX, Trump engaged in multiple transactions involving Tesla. He bought between $100,001 and $250,000 of Tesla shares on June 15 and another $15,001 to $50,000 the following day. He later sold between $131,004 and $365,000 across four transactions before purchasing an additional $100,001 to $250,000 of Tesla shares on July 27.
Microsoft, Amazon Among Major July Trades
Trump’s trading activity in July extended beyond Musk’s companies, with significant transactions involving Microsoft and Amazon. On July 20, he sold shares worth between $5 million and $25 million in both companies. Three days later, he bought between $100,001 and $250,000 of Microsoft and between $1,001 and $15,000 of Amazon.
The same filing on July 20 revealed that Trump sold between $1 million and $5 million of Oracle shares and purchased between $500,001 and $1 million of Nvidia shares. He also sold between $250,001 and $500,000 of Northrop Grumman shares on that day, coinciding with an executive order he signed to tighten supply chain requirements for defense contractors.
Stocks, ETFs, and Bonds
Trump’s July disclosure included additional investments in various stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). He bought between $1 million and $5 million each of Intuit, Marvell Technology, Salesforce, and Church & Dwight. He also invested between $250,000 and $500,000 in Axon Enterprises, which frequently collaborates with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
On July 8, Trump made several ETF transactions, purchasing between $1 million and $5 million each of the State Street SPDR Bloomberg International Treasury Bond ETF, Fidelity MSCI Communication Services Index ETF, Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund ETF, and Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund ETF. On the same day, he sold between $1 million and $5 million each of the iShares US Treasury Bond ETF, State Street Communication Services Select Sector SPDR ETF, and iShares International Treasury Bond ETF.
Trading Activity Remains High
The July disclosure follows a busy June, where Trump reported 1,051 transactions valued between $78.1 million and $263.1 million across various securities. His 2025 annual financial disclosure indicated over 21,000 trades across eight accounts, holding at least $858 million. This is a stark contrast to the 86 stock transactions disclosed during his first year in office in 2017.
The White House has stated that Trump’s portfolio is managed independently, with no involvement from him or his family in investment decisions. White House spokesman Davis Ingle confirmed that “President Trump’s stock and bond portfolio is independently managed by third-party financial institutions.”
