Banda Singh Bahadur Martyrdom Day observed by National Monuments Authority
At the Red Fort in New Delhi, the National Monuments Authority observed Banda Singh Bahadur Martyrdom Day. The Martyrdom Day of the revered Sikh ruler falls today by Indian Calendar.
The event at Red Fort Lawns was attended by Minister of state for Culture and External Affairs Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi along with NMA Chairman Shri Tarun Vijay and Baba Jatinder Pal Singh Sodhi, tenth generation descendant of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
Smt MeenakashiLekhi said young people in Punjab should be inspired by BabaBanda Singh Bahadur Ji.
An exhibition showing the story of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was also displayed at the event.
About Baaba Banda Singh Bahadur
Banda Singh Bahadur (born Lachman Dev) (27 October 1670 – 9 June 1716) was a Sikh warrior and the commander of Khalsa army.ย At 15, he became an ascetic and was given the name Madho Das Bairagi.ย He established a monastery atย Nฤnded, on the bank of the riverย Godฤvarฤซ. Guru Gobind Singh accepted an invitation to meet Bahadur Shah I in 1707.ย In 1708 he visited Banda Singh Bahadur. Banda became a disciple of Guru Gobind Singh and was baptized with the name Gurbaksh Singh.ย Most people call him Banda Singh Bahadur. The Guru gave him five arrows as a blessing for his battles.
