New Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains to Connect Varanasi and New Delhi

Indian Railways is set to enhance overnight travel with the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express trains, linking Varanasi and New Delhi. This move aims to improve inter-city connectivity while providing travelers with a modern and comfortable option for long-distance journeys. The official inauguration will take place in Varanasi tomorrow, officiated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.

This introduction follows the successful rollout of Vande Bharat Sleeper services on the Howrah-Guwahati corridor earlier this year, marking a significant expansion of these next-generation trains into new areas. The new service promises enhanced onboard amenities, advanced safety features, and thoughtfully designed sleeper accommodations, all contributing to a more passenger-centric travel experience.

Strengthening Varanasi’s Connection to the Capital

The Vande Bharat Sleeper service will solidify the link between Varanasi, a major spiritual and cultural hub, and India’s national capital. Varanasi draws visitors from around the world year-round, including pilgrims, students, and tourists. The improved overnight connection with New Delhi aims to offer greater convenience for passengers traveling for various reasons, including religious, educational, and tourism purposes.

Along the route, the service will stop at key stations, including Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, Aligarh, and Ghaziabad, thereby improving access for passengers from surrounding districts. This will extend the advantages of modern rail travel to a broader audience.

Departing Varanasi at 20:50, the train will arrive in New Delhi at 06:10 the next day. The return trip will take off from New Delhi at 21:40, reaching Varanasi by 07:10, both routes significantly cutting down travel times compared to the existing Shiv Ganga Express—by 55 minutes from Varanasi to New Delhi and 35 minutes for the return journey.

The service will operate six days a week, excluding Fridays for the outbound journey and Saturdays for the inbound service, allowing passengers to travel overnight and maximize their time. This will be particularly advantageous for pilgrims, professionals, tourists, and families traveling frequently between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.

Setting New Standards in Overnight Travel

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is specifically designed for long journeys, merging modern technology with improved safety systems and passenger-friendly amenities. Its focus is on creating a comfortable and clean environment for passengers traveling long distances, with careful attention to sleeping arrangements, cleanliness, & accessibility.

Some of the key features include:

  • Power & Performance: Regenerative braking for energy efficiency and a smooth ride, aided by an aerodynamic design.
  • Safety & Security: Equipped with fire safety standards, collision avoidance systems, smoke and fire detection systems, and CCTV for passenger monitoring.
  • Comfort & Convenience: Ergonomic toilets, special accommodations for differently-abled passengers, ample luggage space, and modern amenities including charging ports and Wi-Fi.

These features reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger experience through innovation, safety, and efficiency. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains marks a significant step in modernizing India’s railway services and elevating overnight travel options for all passengers.
