Rajpal Yadav Secures Bail from Delhi High Court in Rs. 9 Crore Cheque Bounce Case to Attend Family Wedding

Veteran Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted temporary relief by the Delhi High Court in a significant cheque bounce case involving Rs. 9 crores. The court has suspended his sentence, allowing him to attend a family wedding on February 19, 2026, while legal proceedings continue. This development comes after a lengthy legal battle that dates back to 2010, when Yadav borrowed money to finance his directorial debut.

Background of the Case

The cheque bounce case against Rajpal Yadav originated in 2010, when he borrowed Rs. 5 crores from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based company. The funds were intended to support his first film, *Ata Pata Laapata*, which was released in 2012. Unfortunately, the film did not perform well at the box office, leaving Yadav unable to repay the loan. As a result, the financial dispute escalated into multiple cheque bounce cases, with accumulated interest and penalties pushing the total amount owed to nearly Rs. 9 crores over the years.

In 2018, Yadav faced a six-month prison sentence for the cheque bounce cases. He served three months in Tihar Jail before being released on bail while appealing the decision. However, the case gained renewed urgency this month when the High Court noted that Yadav had failed to adhere to multiple undertakings to settle his debts.

Recent Court Developments

On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court expressed concern over Yadav’s lack of progress in resolving the financial dispute. The court had previously granted over 25 adjournments for mediation and repayment discussions, but it found that Yadav had not taken “sincere and genuine measures” to clear his liabilities. Following this observation, Yadav surrendered to authorities on February 5 and was sent back to Tihar Jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.

During hearings on February 12 and 16, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma emphasized that the court’s primary focus is on ensuring restitution for the complainant. The bench rejected a proposal for Yadav to deposit funds via a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) and instead mandated that payments be made through a Demand Draft (DD) to facilitate immediate realization of the funds.

Financial Support and Future Proceedings

In light of the ongoing legal challenges, members of the film industry have reportedly stepped in to provide financial assistance to Yadav. As of mid-February, his legal team informed the court that approximately Rs. 1.5 crore had been deposited into the complainant’s bank account. This support may play a crucial role in helping Yadav settle the remaining dues.

Looking ahead, all eyes are on the upcoming court hearing scheduled for March 18, 2026. The outcome of this hearing will be pivotal in determining whether Yadav can make significant progress in resolving the financial issues that have plagued him for years. The court’s decision will not only impact Yadav’s legal standing but also his ability to participate in future projects within the film industry.

As the situation unfolds, the public and his fans remain hopeful for a resolution that will allow Yadav to move forward both personally and professionally.
