iOS 26.3 Beta Introduces Android Data Transfer, Enhanced Privacy Controls, and Wearable Integration

Apple has unveiled the third beta version of iOS 26.3 for iPhone users, introducing a suite of new features aimed at enhancing device interoperability, privacy, and support for third-party accessories. This update simplifies the process of transferring data to Android devices, offers improved controls for location sharing, and enables notification forwarding to non-Apple devices. Additionally, users can expect a refreshed wallpaper selection that includes dynamic weather and astronomy themes.

iPhone to Android Transfer

The latest iOS 26.3 beta introduces a new feature called “Transfer to Android,” designed to facilitate a seamless transition for iPhone users switching to Android devices. This system, developed in partnership with Google, allows users to wirelessly transfer essential data such as photos, messages, notes, apps, and contacts to their new Android devices. However, Apple has specified that sensitive information, including Health data, locked notes, and paired Bluetooth devices, will not be included in the transfer. Both companies are committed to expanding the range of transferable data as the beta testing phase progresses.

Controlled Location Data Sharing

A significant addition in this update is the “Limit Precise Location” feature, which enhances user privacy by limiting the amount of location data that carriers can access. With this feature enabled, carriers will only be able to determine a device’s general neighborhood rather than its exact address. To utilize this feature, users must have an iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, or iPad Pro (M5) with cellular capabilities, running iOS 26.3 or later, and be connected to a supported carrier. Currently, this includes Telekom in Germany, EE and BT in the UK, Boost Mobile in the US, and AIS and True in Thailand. Users can find this option under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.

Notification Forwarding to Wearables

iOS 26.3 also introduces the capability to forward notifications to third-party smartwatches and other wearable devices. This feature allows users to send notifications to one accessory at a time, which will temporarily disable notifications on their Apple Watch while the feature is active. At present, this functionality is limited to users in the European Union, where Apple is adhering to the new Digital Markets Act regulations that mandate third-party devices to display notifications from iPhones.

Additional EU Features and Wallpaper Updates

The European version of iOS 26.3 includes several enhancements, such as proximity pairing for non-Apple accessories, NFC capabilities for initiating connections with devices, and high-bandwidth peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connections to support the new Android transfer system. Furthermore, Apple has revamped the Wallpapers menu, creating distinct categories for Weather and Astronomy. The new Weather wallpapers will showcase live conditions, while the Astronomy wallpapers will display real-time positions of celestial bodies. iOS 26.3 is anticipated to be available to all users by late January or early February, in line with Apple’s standard release schedule.
