Repost Public Instagram Stories Without Permission Tags: Key Changes Explained

Instagram has introduced a significant update that allows users to repost public Stories without needing permission tags. This new feature, which is being rolled out globally on both iOS and Android platforms, aims to enhance user interaction and streamline the sharing process. By enabling reposts without tags, Instagram is shifting the way content is shared, making it easier for users to engage with each other’s posts while ensuring proper attribution remains intact.

New Option to Repost Public Stories

With the latest update, Instagram users can now see an “Add to Story” option when viewing a Story from a public account. This feature allows users to easily share content in their own Stories, with the original creator’s username displayed prominently. This ensures that the source of the reposted content is always credited, maintaining transparency in sharing.

However, this feature is limited to public accounts only. Stories from private profiles cannot be reshared, preserving the privacy of those users. Additionally, Instagram has implemented a control mechanism for creators, allowing them to disable the resharing option entirely. By adjusting the “Allow Sharing to Story” setting in their privacy menu, creators can prevent others from seeing the repost button on their Stories. If this setting is turned off, the option will not be visible to viewers, giving users more control over their content.

This update aims to reduce the reliance on indirect sharing methods, such as screenshots or screen recordings, which often compromise the quality of the content and fail to provide proper credit. By facilitating native resharing, Instagram seeks to create a more seamless sharing experience, aligning itself with the sharing practices seen on platforms like X and TikTok.

Internal Policy Change for Employees

In addition to the new feature for users, Instagram is also making changes to its internal policies regarding employee work arrangements. Starting February 2026, all US-based employees with assigned desks will be required to return to the office five days a week. This decision was communicated in a memo titled “Building a Winning Culture in 2026,” authored by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

Mosseri emphasized the importance of in-person collaboration for fostering stronger teamwork and quicker decision-making. He shared insights from his own experiences in the New York office, highlighting how face-to-face interactions can help teams build momentum and drive productivity. This shift reflects Instagram’s commitment to enhancing its workplace culture and improving operational efficiency as it moves into the new year.
