Probationers of Indian Statistical Service call on the President

Today (December 16, 2022), Indian Statistical Service probationers met with the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

 In his address to officers, the President said policy formulation and execution can’t work without statistics. The role and importance of statistics have increased exponentially in this age of endless information and data. The ranking of India is based on statistics. The stats behind saying India has a high demographic dividend or is a country of young people are based on statistics.

According to the President, Indian Statistical Service officers compile official statistics for government and non-government agencies. They’re supposed to supply data and information solutions for the country, which requires high proficiency in statistical methods. In their training, they cover a wide range of topics like Big Data, Data Mining, and Artificial Intelligence, which are all brand new. The training program will help them do their jobs efficiently, she said.

According to the president, India is about to enter a new phase of socio-economic development. As digital technology has penetrated more and more, government has become more transparent and efficient. Through these initiatives, government can take effective decisions based on data.

He told them that their contributions will help steer India towards greater progress and development if they do their jobs with sincerity and commitment. They’ll provide information and data analysis that will help develop policies that make sure nobody gets left behind.
