Jackson Pollock (28 January 1912 –  11 August 1956) was an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was widely noticed for his “drip technique” of pouring or splashing liquid household paint onto a horizontal surface, enabling him to view and paint his canvases from all angles

Life and Career

He was born on 28 January 1912 n Cody, Wyoming. Grew up in Arizona and California. He moved to New York City in the 1930s, where he studied at the Art Students League and began experimenting with different styles. He had his first solo exhibition in 1943, and his work quickly gained recognition and acclaim. He became one of the leading figures of the abstract expressionist movement, along with artists like Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko. Pollock died in a car accident on 11 August 1956 at the age of 44. Despite his relatively short career, his work continues to be highly influential in the art world.

Award and Legacy

Jackson Pollock’s work received significant critical and commercial success during his lifetime. In 1943, he had his first solo exhibition at the Art of This Century gallery in New York City, which was curated by Peggy Guggenheim. This exhibition brought him national attention, and he went on to have solo exhibitions at major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.

Exhibition Saga of Freedom – Known and Lesser-Known Struggles

Pollock’s legacy continues to be felt in the art world today. His drip painting technique and large-scale abstract compositions have been highly influential, and his work is considered a major turning point in the history of modern art. His works are now part of the permanent collection of major museums around the world and continue to be studied and admired by art scholars, curators, and the general public.

His influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary artists, particularly those working in abstract and gestural styles. His reputation and influence have also been reflected in the high prices his works have commanded at auction.

In addition, the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in East Hampton, New York, which Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner owned and used as their residence and studio, is now open to the public as an artist’s residence and study center.
