Empowering Rural Women: DAY-NRLM Shines at Bharat Tex 2026

The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), through the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), proudly wrapped up its successful participation at Bharat Tex 2026. Over four dynamic days, the Ministry showcased the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and craftsmanship of rural women affiliated with Self Help Groups (SHGs). The event provided a valuable platform for Lakhpati Didis from across the nation to connect with buyers, industry representatives, and visitors, while celebrating India’s rich textile and handicraft traditions.

Engaging Exhibits and Notable Visitors

On the final day of the event, key officials, including Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, and Shri T.K. Anil Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, toured the Ministry’s pavilion. They were greeted by Dr. Molishree, Director of DAY-NRLM, and engaged with the Lakhpati Didis, learning about their entrepreneurial journeys and exploring the diverse handloom and handcrafted products they have created.

A Hub of Innovation and Tradition

The pavilion attracted a wide array of visitors, including buyers, exporters, and industry stakeholders both from India and abroad. This interaction allowed women entrepreneurs to showcase their products, share innovative ideas with industry representatives, and explore new market opportunities. The exhibition featured an extensive range of handloom products, highlighting India’s diverse textile heritage. Attendees marveled at creations such as Pattachitra, Pen Kalamkari, Phulkari embroidery, and luxurious fabrics like Eri silk and Pashmina, all crafted by talented rural women.

The Saras Shakti Collection

One of the highlights of the showcase was the Saras Shakti Collection, an initiative under DAY-NRLM that offers a curated selection of handcrafted items from rural women SHGs. This premium gifting collection emphasizes quality, thoughtful design, and market readiness, thereby helping women-led enterprises penetrate institutional and premium markets while honoring traditional craftsmanship.

Celebrating Women’s Contributions

The participation of Lakhpati Didis at Bharat Tex 2026 underscored the increasing impact of women-led SHG enterprises on India’s textile and handicraft sector. Through DAY-NRLM, rural women receive critical support that includes access to finance, skill development, and market linkages, thus enabling them to improve their incomes and establish sustainable livelihoods. To date, DAY-NRLM has mobilized over 10 crore rural women into Self Help Groups throughout India.

A Vision for Growth

With the Lakhpati Didi initiative achieving the milestone of 3 crore Lakhpati Didis, the Government is committed to the ambitious goal of creating 6 crore Lakhpati Didis. The Ministry’s presence at Bharat Tex 2026 reinforced its dedication to bolstering women-led rural enterprises by enhancing market access, preserving India’s exceptional textile heritage, and creating opportunities for rural women entrepreneurs to engage with both national and international markets via DAY-NRLM.
