Tata Power’s National Urja Mela 2025: A Showcase for Young Sustainability Leaders
In a vibrant celebration of sustainability, Tata Power organized the National Urja Mela 2025 at the Tata Power-DDL Learning Center in Delhi. This annual event, held as part of National Energy Conservation Week, attracted over 1,000 students and educators from 200 schools across 15 states, providing a platform for young champions to present their innovative ideas focused on clean energy and resource conservation.
A Platform for Innovation
The National Urja Mela is a highlight of Tata Power’s Club Enerji initiative, which has been engaging school students for over a decade. This year’s theme, “Clean Energy, Greener Tomorrow,” prompted participants to showcase STEM-based projects designed to tackle environmental challenges. Creative activities such as a Science Model Exhibition, Poster-Making Competition, and Quiz Competition enabled students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world solutions, fostering a spirit of teamwork and problem-solving.
Inspiring Future Leaders
Highlighting the day’s significance, Brigadier Atulya Bamjai from the NCC attended as the Chief Guest, accompanied by dignitaries including Mr. Pramod Katiyar from the New Delhi Education Department. Tata Power leaders, including Mr. Himal Tewari, CHRO and Chief of Sustainability & CSR, motivated young participants to continue their journey in sustainability. “Informed citizens are key to a cleaner energy future,” Tewari stated, underscoring the importance of educational platforms in cultivating ecological awareness from an early age.
Engaging with Experts
The event also featured notable speakers such as Gopal Jee, known as “Banana Boy,” who encouraged students with his innovative approaches to waste management and clean energy. Mr. Akhilesh Aggarwal emphasized the need for experiential learning in STEM education, further enriching the students’ understanding of environmental issues.
Promoting Wildlife Conservation
A central aspect of the Mela was the unveiling of the ‘Gaja Sanrakshana’ comic book in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha, aimed at teaching children about wildlife conservation. Participants also engaged in storytelling workshops that deepened their appreciation for biodiversity and human-animal coexistence.
Continuing Impact
Club Enerji has reached more than a million students since its inception, promoting responsible practices and influencing families towards sustainable choices. With the Eco Crew program expanding across multiple cities, Tata Power remains committed to empowering the next generation of sustainability advocates and advancing India’s clean energy landscape.
