Setting up of Control Room for monitoring problems arising from heavy rains impacting the operation of National Highways

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has set up a control room ahead of the onset of the monsoon. The control room will be operational 24 hours a day throughout the monsoon season (Tele no. 011-23718525, https://morth.nic.in).

The Control Room was established to monitor the problems arising from heavy rains affecting the operation of national highways in the country, namely, traffic disruptions, accidents due to poor visibility and potholes, water stagnation, road obstruction and landslides etc .

Dedicated teams have been deployed for control room duties which will include receiving calls from public and government agencies and monitoring electronic media platforms for monsoon-related incidents related to the operation of national highways. The teams were tasked with coordinating with relevant regional officers from MoRTH, NHAI and NHIDCL for faster resolution of issues related to blockage or damage to national highways.
