Saudia and Air India Join Forces with New Codeshare Agreement

In a notable development for international travel, Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, has announced a codeshare agreement with Air India, one of the leading carriers in India. Set to begin in February, this partnership aims to enhance travel options for passengers from both airlines, while simultaneously addressing the growing demand in tourism and business sectors.

Enhanced Connectivity and Travel Experience

The newly established codeshare will significantly improve connectivity between major hubs in India and Saudi Arabia. Travelers flying with Saudia will now have the convenience of accessing key Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi, along with regional destinations like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, and Jaipur. In total, more than 15 additional destinations will be available through interline agreements.

For Air India passengers, the potential for seamless travel is further expanded, as they will have easy connections to cities like Jeddah and Riyadh with onward Saudia-operated flights to locations such as Dammam, Abha, and Madinah. This added flexibility allows guests to arrive in one city and leave from another, making travel planning more convenient than ever.

Paving the Way for Future Growth

Both airlines are optimistic about the advantages this partnership will bring. H.E. Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, emphasized the significance of the agreement as a strategic advancement for both airlines, noting their mutual dedication to enhancing connectivity and offering travelers expanded access to more destinations. He highlighted Saudia’s long-standing presence in India, aiming to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia as a vital market within the Middle East. With the Kingdom rapidly emerging as a major international gateway, the collaboration with Saudia will not only benefit the Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia but also entice Indian tourists eager to explore the nation’s diverse attractions.

Since Air India’s privatization in 2022, the airline has accelerated the growth of its global network, now boasting 24 codeshare arrangements and nearly 100 interline agreements with other top-tier airlines. This new partnership with Saudia signals a commitment to providing seamless travel experiences for customers while offering access to over 800 destinations worldwide.

As travel continues to evolve, this partnership reinforces the importance of enhanced connectivity and accessibility, promising to make journeys between India and Saudi Arabia smoother and more efficient for all travelers.
