Pranab Mukherjee (11 December 1935 – 31 August 2020), the 13th President of India. He was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by the Indian National Congress appointed him as the Presidential candidate of India in July 2012, and in the presidential election, Pranab Mukherjee replaced the opposition candidate. He won by defeating Sangma. On 25 July 2012, Pranab Mukherjee became the 13th President of India by taking the oath of office. He was born on 11 December 1935.
He was awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 2019, by his successor as president, Ram Nath Kovind.
Mukherjee died on 31 August 2020, aged 84, which was confirmed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee via Twitter.
